Design Information

When Matthew Carter and Jesse Ragan designed Roster, they took the visual tension of squared corners within rounded shapes to a bold extreme. Roster’s outer shapes are large, curved rectangles; its inner shapes have the chisel-cut clarity of counters carved out of the surrounding letterforms. The effect, sometimes subtly seen in a text face, is a convincingly dramatic slab serif display family. Roster can be used in smaller sizes, but the real flex is to go daringly big. Carter & Cone’s Roster comprises 60 styles — 6 weights (Extra Light, Light, Regular, Semibold, Bold, and Black) in 5 widths (Expanded, Normal, Narrow, Condensed, and Compressed), all with Italics.
